Questions about the Wegovy® pen

What is Wegovy?

Wegovy (semaglutide) is a once weekly injection, FDA approved for chronic weight management in adults with obesity, or with overweight and a weight related health condition, alongside a reduced calorie diet and more physical activity. It is also approved to lower the risk of heart attack and stroke in adults with heart disease and obesity or overweight.

How is it different from the Wegovy pill?

Same medicine, different route. The pen is one shot a week with no rules around meals. The pill is a daily tablet taken on an empty stomach. In their own trials the pen reached a little more weight loss on average, 14.9% against 13.6%. The two were not studied against each other.

How much does it cost?

From $199 a month without insurance, plus Curie's $30 monthly service fee. Your price depends on your dose, which your provider sets.

Do I need insurance?

No. The Wegovy pen is available with self pay.

What are the common side effects?

Nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, constipation and stomach pain are the most common. They are usually mild and ease as your body adjusts, which is why the dose starts low.

GLP-1s as you need them.
